[Shortly after this conversation, Ochako sends a quirk message over on Adaine's recommendation. Hopefully with some short notice, she won't be too upset...]
Hello,
My name is Uraraka Ochako. I heard from a mutual friend that you're a tailor, and sell fabrics? I don't necessarily need anything made (I kind of want to make something myself), but I'd love to purchase some fabric, or at least some yarn. A very close and good friend of mine is having their birthday next week on the 20th, so I want to make him something special myself...
I unfortunately don't have any money, or much in the ways of trading, s-since I'm so new here to Trench, and was REALLY sick last month with that blood illness...but I can try to work it off after. Or get you things you may need!! Groceries, laundry, cleaning...anything like that!
Thank you for your interest. I'm afraid I don't sell fabrics, but I can try and source them for you, if you tell me what you need. And I could certainly use some help with cleaning. I've always been a part of a large household, and I've never worked as a maid, or anything but a dressmaker. I have tried to learn from videos, with little success. I could find you any notions or beads you might need for your project, as well. I look forward to working together.
[Oh, there's a clear sagging of Ochako's shoulders as she reads the message at first, but it's a good start nonetheless, and there's others who were offering to help, too.]
That's unfortunate, but thank you so much for your help!! I was thinking to make something like a blanket for him. Something soft, but light because of the coming warmer months. He's a fan of darker colors primarily like black and a deep navy blue, but maybe a splash of color like red or orange to stand out? I already have a design or two in mind, so don't worry about that, I just need the materials... Which has been the biggest hurdle.
But, if you can find something like that, I'd really appreciate it, and I don't have any problems cleaning up!! I'm no professional, but I'll do my very best to pay you back for anything! Even just running errands here and there, too. Anything you can think of.
I do have some light wools in black and dark blue. They are quite soft. I have some red cotton that might do, and some reds that are not as soft, and of course many red beads.
[she often dresses performers for the red, and many of the men want interesting wool suits in darker colors.]
I also have thin fine weaves and thread for embroidery, and clean wool for quilting and padding. I would be glad to help you with any techniques. It would be well if you could teach me to clean quickly and effectively, though I would appreciate any cleaning you might do that would give me more time to sew.
Hmm, the cotton might be better, if only for ease of washing. I know how to clean and dry both, but it's more time consuming for wool. And thread would be wonderful, too!! I'm best at sewing and I can knit if I have enough time...but that's harder for me, and I only really have a week to get it all done.
[So Ochako's going to be working overtime, but that's fine. She has plenty of time to spare now that she's in this new world. No school and no Work Study activities means she literally has the whole day to do whatever after her training and work out in the mor--er...whatever constitutes as morning these days.]
I definitely appreciate the help, too!! (⌒ω⌒)~♥ And I can teach you some simple cleaning techniques, of course! It's really not hard at all and helps save sooo much time, since things stay cleaner longer.
I have cottons in black and dark blue as well. I'm sure I could order cotton padding, if you need it.
[actually that would probably be a good idea in general for all the padding she makes to go under sleeper's armor. it does need to be washed quite often.]
Is there a trick to drying wool with the machines? I know you can wash it gently, with cold water.
[rip some dress she sat on the floor and cried about.]
Oh, that perfect!! I think cotton is just easier to maintain, though maybe I'll get some wool when it gets a little colder. ^O^
Honestly, the best thing to do with real wool is AVOID putting it in a machine to dry. Just hang it up to air dry naturally, or lay it flat somewhere dry. It takes longer, yeah, but it won't shrink that way. Certain mixed fabrics with wool can be dried in a machine, but it's safer to just air dry, really. At least from my experience... Better safe than sorry!!
Thank you, I'll keep that in mind. You might ask the lantern imps for the Rookery, or look for the building in Cellar Door with the tree growing out of it. It's a weirwood, with white branches and red leaves.
I did find that, when I'm running a dryer, the residual heat from the machine can sometimes dry wool things if they're small... So I'll sometimes put a scarf, sweater, or some socks on top of it and dry them that way.
Oooh, that sounds so interesting!! I think it'll be easy to spot, so thank you so much!! I'll stop by later today if that's okay?
