★ Character Information ★
Character Name: Sansa Stark
Character Age: 18 (16 at canonpoint)
Character Species: human
Current Health: alive!
Outfit: a gown of thick grey wool embroidered with purple-leafed weirwood branches about the chest and shoulders and shadowy, silvery wolves hiding among them. it's cut to her knees in front and barely grazes her ankles in the back, revealing sturdy black boots and leggings; a wide leather belt holds an empty chatelaine. she also has her needle necklace, black leather gloves, and a large silver moth ring.

Character Canon: A Song of Ice and Fire
Link to History: here on a wiki of ice and fire.
Canon Point: The Winds of Winter Alayne I, available here
Canon Iteration: CRAU from Deer Country
Canon Iteration Explanation: Sansa arrived in Trench as Alayne Stone, not sure if she was more afraid of finding Littlefinger waiting for her or going without her protection. it helped that she was reunited with her direwolf Lady, whose care and protection became her utmost concern. she stayed in sanguine station, the inn for new characters, observing the innkeepers and guests and asking polite questions when appropriate as well as mending and tailoring the secondhand clothes that had been donated for their use. with the help of the innkeepers and other npcs she eventually found a suitable home and place of business, once her fellow Sleepers helped her repair the hole in the roof left by the weirwood growing through it, as a plot element allowed for characters to discover plants from their home worlds around the city. she quickly learned that her Paleblood was valuable and set about learning to make it into a even more valuable bloodstone, a type of magic she wasn't especially suited to but worked very diligently at throughout her time in Trench.

she soon set up shop as a dressmaker to npc performer characters and offered reduced rates for Sleepers to better ingratiate herself into the community. she was determined to make herself indispensable as she believed this was the best way to achieve security in this world; people are likely to want to protect a valuable resource.

she was shocked to discover how well people responded to her efforts, and she fell in love with the city despite the constant curses. they reminded her of Littlefinger's lessons, and was able to apply the things she'd learned there to new challenges, doing her best to determine the intentions behind them, and relying on her shared senses with Lady to see past the city's illusions and overcome unwanted monthly blood effects.

her first real test came at the end of March when she was forced to confront the ghosts of her family and those sworn to house Stark. in order to put them to rest, she promised to become Sansa Stark again, and win back the North when she could. it was some time before she was able to determine who Sansa Stark was, however. she found herself drawn into the investigation of an especially powerful necromancer, and apprenticed herself to the detective set against him. through this she was able to apply what she'd learned as a hostage and as Littlefinger's 'daughter' to a cause that she felt was befitting of a Stark of Winterfell.

as weaknesses in the city's 'soft' infrastructure and social safety net became apparent, Sansa also felt it was her duty to find opportunities to combat this. she did so by assisting her friends with their player-run charitable enterprises and schools. when her friend Allen Walker established a Sanctuary out of which to run a more thoughtful and compassionate system of catching and treating the Beasts that threatened the city, Sansa helped to oversee the day-to-day running of the former monastery that housed it. she also assisted Sakura and Sasuke Uchiha with their Wellness Center and ninjutsu dojo. eventually she and Ezra Bridger would take over the running of the Wellness Center under the banner of the Sanctuary when Sasuke and Sakura returned to the sea. through these outlets she provided free clothing to new Sleepers and locals in need, as well as leather armor and padding.

Sansa was terrified of the corruption that threatened all creatures in Trench, afraid she would become something like her canon tormentors. she studied the treatment of it in-game, and eventually she began to see parallels between the physical corruption of Trench and the more insidious corruption in Westerosi society. she became determined to treat corruption whenever possible, believing perhaps if someone had treated Lysa Arryn or Cersei Lannister for corruption in the past they might not have become the 'beasts' that she encountered. she did find it reassuring that corruption and Beasthood manifested in visible ways that could be treated through immediate intervention as well as traditional therapeutic practices, and will be somewhat nervous when this is no longer the case.

she also saw parallels between the court intrigue she was used to and the actions of the various Pthumerians in and outside of Trench. she noticed a pattern to unprecedented, violent events that resembled a coordinated assault, and was very surprised to be proven right. due to her proximity to some of the Pthumerians involved, and her ease at speaking with powerful people, she became a key player in this part of the plot, even leading an expedition outside the city despite her personal fears.

ultimately Sansa saw her own story and that of her friends reflected in the fate of Julia Sodder, the half-Pthumerian npc girl whose sacrifice created the world of Trench. she became determined to use what power she had to protect young teens and children from experiencing the trauma and manipulation she, her friends, and Julia did. she continues to be protective of, or at least concerned about, people that remind her of herself and her siblings.

★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: Sansa is exceptionally skilled in sewing of all kinds, as well as in garment construction. she has great design sense! she excels at fine embroidery including stumpwork and beadwork, and is competent with leather.

sansa studied with sasuke uchiha in order to gain control over her warg abilities. she has a talent for chakra control, which she uses to balance on uneven terrain (including walls and water), maintain her grip on unsteady mounts and objects, and increase the speed of her movements. this in turn allows her to use body flicker technique to essentially teleport short distances. she chose to focus her efforts at bettering this than on fighting techniques.

she learned Dungeons and Dragons style magic from a friend. she knows the cantrips mending, message, and prestidigitation.

Sansa can sing and play the harp, which she has learned to read music for. She also plays the bells in canon.

Sansa is an excellent dog trainer and trained her direwolf Lady before her warg abilities manifested (they have yet to do so in canon).

she's very good at problem solving and puzzles, and is quick to figure out the 'rules' of whatever situation she finds herself in.

she's learned in canon to read people very well. she is an expert at determining the motivation behind people's actions and behavior.

Canon Abilities: Sansa and all her siblings have the potential to become a Greenseer like her brother Bran. Greenseers have all the powers of skinchangers, who can essentially move their souls from their human body into a familiar animal, experiencing all that the familiar does and knowing all that they know. It is very rare for a skinchanger to have more than one familiar, or 'skin,' but Greenseers can, with practice, take on any number of them. They are also able to connect with the Old Gods, essentially the living consciousness of Westeros, and see through the eyes of the heart trees––sacred weirwood trees carved with faces that function as sort of servers for the network that is the Old Gods.

Sansa is not yet able to do any of this in canon. All of her siblings that display skinchanger abilities began by sharing their consciousness with their direwolves while dreaming. Sansa's direwolf Lady was killed before she could begin this process. Lady's bones are buried at Winterfell, and Sansa frequently dreams of running through the surrounding woodlands with Lady; many readers believe this is some warped version of the wolf dreams her siblings experience.
In Trench she was reunited with Lady and given additional power through the blood mechanics of the game, which allowed her to learn skinchanging and adopt familiars. she is now capable of briefly warging any animal without a sense of personhood or a soul, though she is most comfortable with birds and caniforms. this is the extent of her greenseer abilities without additional spoon purchases.

Sansa became an exceptionally skilled dreamwalker through this mechanic as well. her hypervigilance, determination, imagination, and problem solving skills make her very well-suited to manipulating and maneuvering dreamscapes. this will continue over into Folkmore as a form of learned magic. Sansa will be able to dreamwalk with the help of her omen Winterfell from Deer Country, a white raven of varying size, now only able to manifest outside of Sansa in dreams. He can also turn into Sansa's personal dreamscape, which resembles the castle Winterfell. Sansa would be able to ride Winter to other character's dreams (oocly this would require a thread with both characters or the handwaving of one, similar to any other in-game interaction)

Role: legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: changing eye color (mostly shades of blue, weirwood sap red for intense feelings of fear and panic. they are normally an icy blue color and her irises disappear completely when she wargs)
changing hair color (it turns darker when she lies)
ability to sense distress
Enhanced durability and rapid healing similar to her prior Sleeper form
Role Reasoning: Sansa is a character who could potentially fit all three roles. She begins the story as an obvious legend; a dreamy preteen who responds primarily emotionally to the first book's plot. as a hostage she relies on forging alliances with anyone she can, and is defined primarily by her relationships for the rest of the series thus far. as Littlefinger's confidante and pupil, she learns to view the world through a more deliberate, logical lens; she learns to quickly identify what people want and use that to her advantage.

however, the main thrust of her character arc in Deer Country involved her discovering her own power, becoming a major player in the metaplot and community. she did this primarily by seeking out teachers and sworn swords, so I feel like there isn't much room for her to grow in the role of a familiar! in folkmore I want to have her come to terms with herself as a powerful, independent being, and learn to use her power responsibly.

Sansa is still mistrustful of her emotional judgement, suspicious of anything 'too good to be true.' in order to grow as a character, she will have to learn to trust her heart at least as much as she trusts the 'logical' way of thinking that Littlefinger taught her––fighting every battle in her mind everywhere and all the time.

in the end she rejected Littlefinger's individualism and embraced the power of the collective, putting her firmly in the camp of legends. like the Starks in the legends of old, she believes the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

★ Personality ★

  • What experience challenged your character's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?
Sansa's father Ned Stark's arrest and subsequent execution mark the premature ending of a childhood largely preoccupied with her personal narratives in which things were as they appeared to be in the romantic ballads she loved. She is immediately disillusioned with Joffrey, the prince turned king she was betrothed to and convinced herself she loved, and her attempt to rescue her father by appealing to Joffrey's feelings for her fails due to Joffrey's callousness. Her hopes of rescue and escape are dashed over and over again in her time as a hostage and she feels deeply powerless, though she never stops looking for escape. She manages to take some pride in her ability to survive, and chooses to be brave, facing her abuse with all the dignity she can muster.

  • If you could give your character a Taylor Swift playlist, which songs would be on it and what would they represent about your character?
Castles Crumbling conveys the grief Sansa feels as a hostage, having lost her home and family. She feels she's lost everything; at one point she recalls how she felt leaving Winterfell and concludes that though she thought it was the beginning of her story, it was in fact the end.
Look What You Made Me Do perfectly encapsulates Sansa's rage when she allows herself to become angry at Littlefinger for his role in her family's tragedy, and Sansa listened to it frequently while processing this in Deer Country. Taylor has said this song was inspired by Sansa's sister Arya's quest for revenge, and Sansa and Arya are parallel characters in many ways.
Marjorie reminds Sansa of her friend Margaery Tyrell, who Sansa turned to for inspiration in crafting a new identity for herself when she felt she could no longer take refuge in playing the part of Alayne Stone. "Never be so clever you forget to be kind/never be so kind you forget to be clever" describe both Sansa and Margaery's approach to life incredibly well.
Long Story Short is how Sansa feels looking back at her chaotic journey in canon and in Trench, and her struggles to understand the different, deep connections she had made that were unlike anything she experienced in Westeros. Sansa had a lot of confusing crushes and strong feelings for her friends before eventually entering into a relationship with Ezra based on shared values and mutual understanding.
Would've, Could've, Should've offers a narrative that is remarkably similar to Sansa's relationship with Littlefinger as well as Joffrey, which she feels Littlefinger had a hand in orchestrating by poisoning Jon Arryn and bringing her father to King's Landing. It also describes her grief and rage at the girlhood she feels was lost in all this, now that she has overcome the deep self-blame she felt for her actions in King's Landing and inability to see through Littlefinger's traps.
Karma articulates how Sansa feels currently, secure in her relationships, magic, and ability to create a place for herself both in Trench and now at Folkmore. she attributes this to her kindness, diplomacy, and resourcefulness.
New Romantics describes Sansa's resilience and the joy she takes in her friendship with characters who have gone through their own difficulties in their canons! she is able to relate to many elements of the stories her friends have gone through and connect with them over it.

  • What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?
Sansa is strongly associated with her home castle, Winterfell. After building a snow model of it in the Vale she feels a bit more empowered than she had been and concludes that it must be the influence of the snow castle, as she is 'stronger within the walls of Winterfell.' As a Paleblood in Deer Country, she enjoyed a personal dreamscape based entirely on Winterfell, that she was quickly able to access by dreamwalking. This power will carry over to her abilities as a Legend, with the aid of her omen from Deer Country, a white raven named Winterfell, who acts as both as a sort of guide leading Sansa through different dreams, and is capable of transforming into her dreamscape itself.

  • What famous folklore, legend, or myth would you associate your character with? Are they literally inspired by Snow White? Do they have similar struggles or energy as Red Riding Hood?
Sansa's story contains very many parallels to 'Cindarella B' stories like Catskin, Donkeyskin, and Allerlierauh, in which the persecuted heroine must escape an unwanted suitor through a variety of disguises. Very often this suitor is the heroine's own father, which is a role Littlefinger assumes when he creates her cover identity as Alayne Stone. These stories also prominently feature dresses with magical and symbolic properties, and Sansa expresses herself very much through fashion. Her ability to choose and/or make her own clothes is symbolic of her personal autonomy throughout her story arc.

  • Which Taylor Swift era is your character going through right now and why?
If sassy, black-clad, morally ambiguous fugitive Alayne Stone was her Reputation era, than Sansa is finally entering into her Lovers era at Folkmore! Free from the oppressive conditions of Westeros and the enormous pressure she put on herself in Trench to safeguard her community, and secure in her CRAU relationships, with Thirteen's encouragement and permission to focus on herself, Sansa is excited to explore her potential as an artist! This is a chance for her to step outside the role of 'lady' and experiment with different ways of being.
